Moccasin Lake is a 30 acre private lake in a beautiful setting with trophy trout up to 8lbs. The lake is fly fishing only and is stocked with rainbows, browns, and tiger trout. Our season is May-June and September-October. We limit the number of anglers and days we allow fishing to ensure the quality remains high throughout the season.
Moccasin Lake is fly fishing only with barbless hooks and practices catch and release. As a result, our fish remain abundant and grow large. Our fish average 16-20 inches, but it is common to catch trout over 2 feet long, and, if you are lucky enough to land one, trout over 8lbs are caught on occasion.
We limit the number of guests to a maximum of 6 per day, and limit fishing to 3-4 days per week during the season to allow the lake to be rested between visits.
Unlike most fee fisheries, Moccasin Lake provides a guide onsite, with extensive knowledge of the fishery, to ensure our guests the highest probability of success. The guide can help with fly selection, presentation tips, rigging, offer casting instruction, and more.
We have an open-air shelter with a wood stove, picnic tables, chairs, gas barbeque, mini-fridge, microwave, etc. to give our guests a place to warm up on cold days, or a shaded area on hot days. There is also a Porta-Potti located near the parking area.
Most guests fish from their float tubes or personal pontoon boats, but it is also possible to launch a small boat. Fishing from shore can also be productive. We prefer for guests to use a minimum of 5wt fly rods, a 6wt is even better for landing and releasing large fish with a minimum of stress.
Moccasin Lake contains shoals that are 8-10 feet deep, as well as deeper areas up to 55 feet deep. As in most still water fishing situations, having a variety of floating and sinking lines will allow you to cover more of the water column and get your flies to where the fish are.
The cost for a day of fishing at Moccasin Lake is $225/person. Fishing hours are typically 8:00AM - 5:00PM but can vary based on the guides discretion. Rates include a shared guide, use of the shelter, and a rowboat is available if you don't have your own watercraft.
Moccasin Lake Ranch partners with the activity center at Sun Mountain Lodge to manage bookings for fishing on the lake. To make a reservation call them at 509-996-4735.
